We are now looking for crew that wants to be a part of our 3 upcoming EPIC journeys, our upcoming adventures will take us all the way from New Zealand to the kingdom of Thailand. The adventure will have its start in april 2017 and if all goes as planned we should arrive to Phuket in Thailand in december 2017.

Solomon Islands
Port Moresby
Phuket
Malasya
Singapore
Komodo – Indonesia
Indonesia
New Caledonia
Thailand

Before we reach our final destination; Phuket in Thailand we will visit countries such as: New Zealand, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore & Malaysia. This will be an epic journey that comes with many ocean miles and a whole bunch of unforgettable memories.

This trip will be one of our most intense trips we have ever done, it will be a demanding year and we will have to sail a bit more than 7000 nautical miles before it is time to open up 2017´s christmas-presents in Thailand.

Demanding or not, when I look at the list of countries that we will be visiting, I get this stupid smile on my face and I cant wait until it is time to set the sails and head up north. We will have a lot of unique cultures, active Volcanos, Whales, Dolphins, Sharks, sandy beaches, remote islands and much more this delicate “adventure-menu”.

You don’t need to be a sailor to be apart of this adventure. A good attitude and huge amount of social skills will take you all the way! When we reach our final destination in Thailand you might have what it takes to cross any ocean on your own!

Our travelplan is not yet very detailed but we do know what countries we are going to visit. We have learned that it is for the best that we do the detailed planning together on-board the boat during the trip. We listen to our crew and we will do our best to please everyone on-board!

Duration of the trip:

Because we will visit so many cool places during this trip and we all want to spend some quality time at the different destinations, this trip will be rather slow and take a while. It´s hard to predict how long a trip like this will take but a guess would be around 8 months!

We are fully aware of that this might be way to long for most people- both because of the cost but also cause of the duration of the trip!

This is why we have decided to split the trip into 3 different parts. There is off course possible to sign up for the whole journey – if you are up for it!!

Part 1:  12 weeks, 3800 nm
Dates: 10/4 – 3/7,  2017
Part 2: 10 weeks, 2200 nm
Dates: 26/7 – 4/10, 2017
Part 3: 6 weeks, 1000 nm
Dates: 24/10 – 5/12, 2017
  • New Zealand
  • New Caledonia
  • Vanuatu
  • Solomon Islands
  • Papua New Guniea
  • Australia
  • Australia
  • Indonesia
  • Singapore

  • Singapore
  • Malaysia
  • Thailand

W

e have chosen not to put any fixed dates on our destinations. Because we have not been there our self, it would almost be stupid of us to decide in forehand how long we are going to stay in different places. We think it is better that we decide this when we are on site and have a feeling about the place, as long as we keep our final deadline!!

What type of crew are we looking for?

We are looking for persons that understand that a trip like this will demand a lot of everyone’s social skills. You must be able to define the difference between a full-on adventure and an average charter-trip. On a trip like this we are most likely going to have at least a couple of obstacles on the way and everyone needs to be able to keep smiling even if we have problems onboard! Mamas-boys and drama-queens should not apply for this trip!

How many people will be on the boat?

We have not yet decided if we will go with full boat or not but we can maximum have 6 “guest-crew-members” on-board the boat.

The boat offers three available double rooms (except our own). If you are single and traveling alone you might have to share room with another crew member.

Diving

Bay Dreamer do have both dive equipment and compressor on-board and we will have the opportunity to explore these places both above and under the water. We also have a dive-master on-board so even if you are not a licensed diver you will have the opportunity to try out scuba diving!

How much does it cost?

The cost for this adventure will be 500 euro/week.
What’s included in the price?

  • All food and water on-board the boat

  • Diesel

  • Marina fees, anchoring fees

  • All costs concerning the actual boat such as spare parts, maintenance etc.

What is NOT included in the price!

  • Check in fees (We will split the cost between the crew) (in some places we might have to pay “marine park fees”, special anchoring fees etc.)

  • Visa fees
  • Food not on the boat (restaurants)

  • Alcohol

  • Special personal treats such as candy, sweets, power bars etc

  • Diving , we will ask you for 20 euro per dive

Bay Dreamer is a non-profit boat. The money we get from the crew goes straight back to the boat and to the trip.
This covers food, water diesel, cooking-gas, maintenance, spare-parts, sat-communication, boat insurance etc

Here follows a rough travel plan:

Please understand that this is an rough idea how the trip will look like,  This plan can be changed due to weather or due to crew-requests. I have calculated that we only do 100nm per/day which is extremely slow for us. Hopefully we can gain many “land-days” if the weather is on our side…

Part 1 of the journey: New Zealand to Australia

This part of our journey towards Thailand will not only be demanding, it will probably also be one of the most interesting ones. We will leave a cold New Zealand and head up north towards a warmer climate closer to the equator. This leg of our journey will offer a lot of ocean miles but in the same time many unique places and experiences.

New Zealand: April 2017

Days in country: 4
To get here: 0

You guys arrive to the boat that will be located in the Bay of Islands in the northern part of New Zealand. We will go for a couple of days cruise around the very beautiful islands here before it is time to do our “check-out” and start our journey up north to New Caledonia. For our leg up to New Caledonia we will need favourable winds, hopefully we don’t need to wait to long for these winds. We should get moving as soon as we can.

New Caledonia: 1000 nm

Days in country: 7
To get here: 10 days (1000nm)

Our first destination will be Noumea on the south western tip of New Caledonia, this is where we will do our paperworks and clear into the country. A guess is that as soon as the paperworks are done we will head out to a group of islands called the Loyalty Islands. We will not spend to many days in New Caledonia so we will have to chose our destinations carefully.

Vanuatu:  250 nm

Days in country: 14
To Get here: 2-3 days

The crossing over to Vanuatu is a short one and it is hardly worth the name crossing. Our first port of call will be the capital of Vanuatu that goes under the name Port Vila. I have never been over here but it is defiantly one of my highlights on my “world around cruise”.

Solomon Islands: 600 nm

Days in country: 14
To Get here: 6 days

Our crossing over from Vanuatu to Solomon will take either 6 or 2 days depending of which port we choose as our first destination.  Solomon has a lot to offer and we will spend around 14 days in this exciting country before it is time for the crew to leave the boat. We will make sure to be as close as possible to the airport when that day comes.

Papua New Guinea: 800 nm

Days in country: 4
To get here: 8

This is where it gets frustrating! We really wanted to explore Papua New Guinea but we need to keep on moving. If we don’t reach Singapore before October we will get caught in the Northeast monsun which will make life very hard for us. The reason for us to do this little “leg-strecher” is because our journey to Australia will be very long otherwise. This is not the safest place on the planet so maybe if we are a bit lucky- we might get robbed PNG-style 🙂 (this was a joke)

Australia: 1000 nm
Days in country: 4
To get here: 10

We will leave the Pacific Ocean and sail west trough the tricky Torres Strait until we reach our final destination: Darwin. When we arrive we will have been sailing almost 4000 nm together- which is a great achievement.

Part 2 of the journey  – Australia to Singapore

We will leave now leave our safe harbour in Darwin and sail 450 nm north until we reach our first port of call in Indonesia. We will spend as much time as we can over here, cruising in a slow pace towards our final destination. Singapore will be the end station for this leg and I guess it will be a nice feeling to get back to civilisation after spending 8 whole weeks in Indonesia.

Australia: July 2017:
Days in country: 3
To get here: 0

Before it is time to set the sails and start our first ocean journey together, we need to provision and prepare the boat. You guys will have 3 days to get to know your new home before it is time for our departure.

Indonesia: 450 nm
Days in country: 57
To get here:  4

Finally- we are here!!! Bali, Gili, Lombok, Komodo and much much more!! Now we will slow down the pace considerably and start traveling for real. I will probably spend more time in the water than on land, what will you do? We will have around 8 weeks in country so we should have time enough for a great Indonesian experience. Indonesia is a huge country and we will have to cruise more than 1700 nm in Indonesian waters before we reach our last port of call.

Singapore: 350 nm

Days in country: 3
To get here: 3

After we have done our “check-out” on the Indonesian island of Belitung we will do our last crossing together. Its a short one but we can expect it to be pretty intense. Thunderstorms and heavy traffic can be expected. I guess the ice-cold bear we will have in the marina upon our arrival will be one of the best we have ever tasted!!

Part 3 of the journey: Singapore to Thailand

This will without any doubt be the most laid back and slow trips during the New Zealand to Thailand adventure. When I say slow I don’t really mean that the boat will sail slow but that we can take our time. Many sandy beaches, crystal clear water, palm trees and sunshine will hopefully be our everyday life during this trip!

Singapore:

Days in country: 2
To get here: 0

You will arrive to the boat and during our 2 days we have together in Singapore we will prepare the boat together. As soon as we are done we will start to head up north trough the Malacca strait towards our first port of call in Malaysia.

Malaysia: 80 nm

Days in country: 18
To get here: 1

After our clearance we will be cruising slowly along the coast in a northerly heading. We will take our time and visit as many places as we can with the time we have. We will Finnish our time in Malaysia around the Island Langkawi.

Thailand
: 40 nm
Days in country: 20
To get here: 1

Next destination will be Satun in Thailand where we will do our paperworks. Now we are legally in Thailand and we will use the time we have left to cruise slowly up north towards Phuket. I haven’t checked out where to go yet, but I am sure that we will have an awesome ending on our trip together.
