The trip from Cayman down to Colon in Panama was nothing but long and pretty boring! We had fair winds all the way and besides for the second night we almost never had to touch the sails at all. I think we sailed around 660 miles in 5 days wish is not superfast but ok.
When we passed the banks between Nicaragua and Jamaica we got a huge Mahi Mahi on the hook. This was the biggest Mahi I have ever seen and it took us a good half an hour to get him or she close to the boat. Just when Davide was about to hook him with the “big fish hook” we could see his partner swimming besides him looking all confused. I heard that Mahi´s lives as couples and we felt really bad about the thought that we should be the ones breaking their relationship, so we made the decision to collect karma points and we released him back to his mate!
We had to make a quick stop in Portobello on the way to Shelter Bay marina to pick up our second outboard engine that has been on repair. It was nice to arrive to set foot on land again but Portobello is definitely not our favorit spot on the planet, We have spent way to much time in this god-forsaken village and we couldn’t wait to continue our trip down to shelter bay marina and one step closer to the canal!
Here in Shelterbay we will sort out our canal transit and hopefully we will get a transit time very shortly! Meanwhile we will do some minor work on the boat that has to be done before we start our long Pacific journey!
Talk to you soon again!
