This might sound a little bit “geeky” but I will say it anyway; this place is in my opinion as close as you can get to a paradise. I have been traveling a lot in my days and this place, Fatu Hiva is now definitely at the top of my “feeling good” list. I am not claiming that I have seen the whole world because I haven’t, but so far this is one of my absolute favorite places in the world!
Everything about this place is so beautiful! High mountains shooting out of the water to an impressive altitude of 1100 meters. When you leave the village behind you and head out in the jungle you will experience true beauty behind every corner; waterfalls, fresh-water streams and trees full of fresh fruit all over the place.
Yesterday we went for a 2 hour trek trough the jungle to a fairly high waterfall. Under the waterfall there was a big natural freshwater swimming pool. Our one and only Jack “the man” did a crazy “non parachute-base-jump” from up VERY high!
The only downside with this remote paradise is that the water that surrounds the Island is not very clear, its full with plankton and this makes the water pretty “milky”. An upside with this is that the plankton rich water attracts a lot of big sea-creatures. Manta rays, hammerhead sharks and whales are known to spend quality time around Fatu Hiva.
This morning when Galen, Jack and me were out on a spearfishing expedition we encountered two big hammerheads that passed just meters from us! We didn’t get any fish today but it was an exciting experience to snorkel around the steep volcanic cliffs!
The island is fairly small and it holds only 630 inhabitants , we have met maybe 30 of them and they have all been super friendly and positive to us anchoring up in their little bay! Yesterday we traded a piece of rope for a bag full of grapefruits and today a traded a couple of cigarettes for a log of green bananas!
There is no airport on the island so the only way to visit Fatu Hiva is by boat. Maybe that is why this place is still magical.
Me and Jack are training a lot, every morning we do something “mean” to our bodies. Hill training, circular training, fighting or boxing- anything that will make us seriously tired works for us. A couple of days ago some of the local kids were joining us on our early morning session- it was fun to see a 10 year old lifting stones and stuff!!
We are slowly getting ready to leave this place, around midnight Bay Dreamer “The banana boat” will set sail and head north-west to Nuku Hiva!

Andreas! Skall göras!!!!
