Colombia – Panama 4.0

This trip to the amazing San Blas Islands was our 4^th in only a month. You could think that it would get boring to arrive to the same place 4 times in a row but the truth is that all the different people and nationalities we have onboard nowadays makes every trip unique. 

We left Cartagena late Saturday the 19^th and we arrived to Portobelo on the 24^th of July. We had decent winds on this trip and we did not have to use our engines to much in this trip.

On this we had the pleasure to travel together with Katrin, Lucy, Jim, Anne & Danielle. Anne & Danielle from the Netherlands are two young girls that besides from being really cool also works as doctors. 

It is nothing wrong with being a doctor, the opposite actually- they help people and are doing good (all the time I guess). But if they are 10 years younger than you they also make you feel really old!! In my world doctors are always a lot older than I am, they are also a bit boring and prude- wish makes me feel NOT so old.  It seems as my world is falling apart!! I am getting old!

On day number two we got our self the biggest Mahi-Mahi we have ever caught onboard the Bay Dreamer, he must have weight at least 20 kilos and it took us almost 30 minutes to get him up on the boat. We had to work pretty hard with the fish even after we killed him, a normal knife could not do the job so we had to use an axe when we was preparing this awesome catch for the barbeque. 

Eastern Hollandaise Islands

We did our first stop on an Island called Eastern Hollandaise. We love this small remote island and we are slowly starting to become good friends with the chief who’s name is Julio. On Julio’s island you will find many palm trees, 4 small houses, a wonderful beach and two nice reefs to snorkel on. 

One of the locals had an infection in his hand after he cut himself on a fish, it felt pretty good to be able to offer him not one but two doctors + medicine. I hope he got better!

While snorkeling the reef we saw one eagle sting-ray, one turtle and a pretty big nurse shark. I also did my deepest skin dive ever- 19.6 meters. 

Lemon Islands

On our second day in the San Blas we anchored just next to an island called LEMON CAYS. This island gets a little bit more visitors than Julio´s but it is still not busy.  On the island you will find a guy called Diego with his family, a beach- volleyball-net, a very tidy beach and a couple of hammocks.  We bought three big lobsters by two Indian’s that came out to our boat in their canoe.  They cost us 10 dollars and together with the Mahi-Mahi we got our self a first class dinner worth to remember.

Isla Pero

Before we left the San Blas this time we stopped for a few ours at Isla Pero. Just a couple of meters from the beach lays an old wreck on the bottom of the sea, just 2-3 meters under the surface. It is not so often you will have the opportunity to see a wreck without going deeper and with the help of dive equipment. 

The story behind the wreck is that the captain of the ship tried to save all the cargo (RUM) before he went under with the ship- so he went full power towards this small island!

You need to be careful when you anchor outside Isla Pero, the island is surrounded with corals and it´s a pity to destroy it with the anchor.

Katrin that has been traveling with us for a while now is really getting used to the boat. She can basically handle the boat on her own by now, and we are very happy to have her and her helping hands onboard.
