We had a slow 18nm sail with some rain and thunder around the western tip of the island before we reached Hvar City.
I am always getting a bit nervous when I can here the thunder close buy when I am on the sea, some people say it safe- some say it is not- one thing I do know is if the flash hits the boat the best thing that could happened is that a lot of equipment will be destroyed, and that is if you are lucky- NO FUN AT ALL!
The city of Hvar is also an old town like Stari Grad and it is really pretty with it´s big squares and small alleys- but here you will find a lot more resturants, pubs, coffee shops and clubs than what you did in Stari Grad.
We tried to drop anchor in the bay of the small town but it was deep- around 16 meters. That it self is not a problem but I guess the bottom isn´t optimal for anchoring so we went on a mooring instead. The moorings where really close to other native small boats so we had to tie up both in the front and in the back to avoid swinging around and hitting other boats when the wind turns.
It was raining almost for 24 hours and I guess the place is a lot nicer here when the sun is up. We met up with the guy (Kohl) that got our car in Split and apparently he is going to drive all the way to Portugal where he is gonna work in a bar, good on him- take care and good luck!
We did some work on the boat aswell- the furling system on the main sail (that everyone says is bullet proof) somehow managed to get tangled inside the mast- it took us 2,5 hours to get it out, I guess I need to be aware of this when we are sailing.
After 28 hours in the bay of Hvar city two pretty rude guys came out and asked for our papers- apparently they where from the harbor office and they also let me know that it cost us 300 kn (local currency) to stay the night on their moorings. We left straight away!! Happy that we managed to stay for a full day without paying. We motored just for a couple of minutes out to a small beutifull island just a few minutes from the bay of Hvar city.
On this small island that is named Marinkovac (I think) you will find 3 small restaurants and two small beaches, you can stay on a mooring if you are a guest to one of the restaurants but there is no need for that because it is only 5 meters deep and perfect for achour.
The coordinates for the small island where it is perfect to stay on anchor is: N43.09 E16.25
