At the small island of Bisevo just 2nm west of the island Vis you will find a cave that you enter from the sea. The blue cave or “Modra špilja” that it is called in Croatian was really beautiful, the light from outside made the water inside almost glow in a “blue-ish” color.
Because of the high depth in the bay just outside the cave, we decides to stay the night tied up along the pier of a very small harbor in the next bay just 2 minutes away.
During the daytime the pier is used buy taxi- and tourist boats but you are allowed to stay there after 18.00 free of charge as long as you leave before 08.00- this is if you are not paying the 40 kuna they want to take you into the cave- if you do that it seems that you are allowed to stay a bit longer.
It sucks when you wanna see something that mother nature has to offer and you are ending up in a cue next to 10 germans buying yourself a stupid ticket. All you want to do is to bring your “adventure gears” and go exploring- but you are stuck in a small rowing boat that is skipped by a guy in a hat wearing a “blue cave” T-shirt- whyyyy??
We didn´t know at the time that you actually where allowed to take your own dingy (for a fee) inside the cave as long as you didn’t go by engine.
Don´t get me wrong it is worth going there but if I where going there again I would take my own dingy early (before 08.00) inside the cave- free of charge and you will also have the cave for your self.
Me and Vera went for a early morning run together up on the island and we could see a couple of small houses and they all seemed to grow grapes for wine making- it felt very authentic and pretty.
The coordinates for the cave is: N42.58.8 E16.01.3
The coordinates for the free overnight place is: N42.58.92 E16.01.25
