After 10 weeks of sailing through jungles, tropical islands and towns of, the second part of our journey to Thailand has now drawn to a close.
A three day sail was made from the tropical paradise of Belitung on wards to the Malaysia/Singapore border, where we have been staying in Senibong Cove Marina for the past 3 weeks.
Swimming at 0 degrees latitude
It was a memorable sail to Singapore as the crew members all crossed the equator. As per sailor tradition, we were all required to jump ship and swim across this invisible line. Lit by the beams of the moonlight, we promoted Olivia to captain and Lo to first mate as we prepared for the swim. We stripped off and gathered around the navigation system, watching our position move closer and closer towards that 0 degree latitude mark. In perfect timing- Will gave the signal and one by one we raced to the front of the boat diving into the warm water (not so gracefully for Amanda who continues to suck at diving) and making a hasty paddle over straight over the equator with Bay Dreamer floating behind us. Back on the boat, we clinked our Champagne glasses together and cheers’d to the swim and the conclusion of a great adventure together.
Another goodbye
Some big hugs and a few small tears later, we said our goodbyes for our amazing crew and Bay Dreamer was once again eerily quiet.
Anna, Danny and Olivia spent most of their time in Singapore during this break– treating themselves to the big buffet breakfasts, prompt room service and a spectacular view over the concrete jungle of Singapore staying in the Pan Pacific Hotel. Olivia particularly enjoyed this rare change of scenery with visits to the zoo, aquarium and the Angry Birds park, Lego Land and Dinosaur Water Park whilst in Malaysia.
Our final trip for 2017
Bay Dreamer is in tip top shape, just in time for the arrival of the new crew today. We are a full boat once again, on board we have Josefine, Ulla and Monica from Sweden and Olive from the United Kingdom as well as the usual Will, Gabbie, Danny, Anna and Olivia.
We can’t believe we’re about to start the third and final leg of our 2017 journey. Its hard to imagine we were only in New Zealand just over 6 months ago with the amount of sailing we’ve done, amazing people we’ve met and places we’ve had the privilege to visit. We cannot wait to begin our third trip tomorrow as we make our way up the west side of the Malaysian coast, stopping first in the cultural haven of Malacca, then island hopping our way to the final destination of Phuket, Thailand.
